if you followed along my stories yesterday, you were lucky enough to see my breakdown over climate change. this is a topic I have avoided for many years, due to fear. because truthfully, it scares the shit out of me. this crisis is one that leaves me feeling scared and hopeless. and from the messages I received, I am not alone in this. but like anything in life, fear is not an excuse. we can be fearful — & still take action.

so my friends! buckle up. because moving forward I will be bringing these topics to light in hopes of showing not only you, but myself how we CAN be the change — day by day, choice by choice, action by action.

climate change is not an overnight fix. just like the journey to healing ourselves, it is the smallest shifts that create the biggest change. I invite you all to join me in doing at least one thing every day to help heal our home, mama earth 🌍

today I chose to skip the paper cup & bring my own *thrifted* coffee mug. and to take it one step further — I chose to skip the straw. while those decisions seem small, imagine how powerful it would be if we ALL skipped the straw today!!! tomorrow!!! all week!!!

— 500 million straws are used in the US every single day

— every year, the US uses enough straws to wrap around the earth 2.5 times

— plastic straws are in the top 5 items collected on the beach every year

— 90% of seabirds and 30% of sea turtles have plastics in their stomach

— 90% of the trash in the ocean is made from plastic

— in most places, plastic straws cannot be recycled

— plastic breaks down into smaller pieces, but never fully goes away

tbh, the list goes on. if those reasons aren’t enough to get you to #skipthestraw I encourage you to do your own research. find something that lights that fire in you. GET ANGRY. there is a powerful video of a turtle having a straw removed from its nostril that rips my heart from my chest. that is all I need to see to bring things into perspective.

personally, I vow to end my plastic straw use for good. I have 10+ reusable straws at home & will simply carry one with me! easy, peasy, heal the earthsy!!! 🌿☁️🌾🍂🕊🌞🍃🌙
