If you haven’t checked out my IGTV on this – you must watch to get the HOW TO for this whole process.
As most of you know – I Gua Sha every day. Sometimes twice a day. You receive so many benefits from using this form of ancient Chinese therapy – I mean you can basically give yourself a facial whenever, whenever you want without the insane toxins, chemicals, and having to constantly spend $$$ on an expensive peel or mask.
THE DEETS.
Gua sha, pronounced “gwa sha” works deeper in the skin because it creates friction – which releases facial muscle tension (hello TMJ) and it moves lymphatic fluids. This means improved blood flow and less puffiness (yes, you – under eye bags). This increase in circulation is said to move toxins out of the skin – which helps to clear out things like blackheads & breakouts – giving you a brighter and clearer complexion.
HOW IT WORKS FOR ME.
Again, I give a tutorial on how I Gua Sha on my IGTV. I do this EVERY DAY, sometimes twice a day. I have noticed SUCH a difference in the overall complexion of my skin. I have far fewer fine lines than I did when I was 20 years old & my issues with dry bumpy skin are nearly gone.
I used to get botox, but haven’t gone back for more in almost 3 years – because Gua Sha is the new botox, my friends! The fine lines and wrinkles I was so upset about (that led me to put toxins into my body) are nearly gone – and I owe that to my diligent Gua Sha routine.
If I haven’t convinced you yet – do more research! There is so much amazing information out there on the different ways Gua Sha can be used. For example, I use the Gua Sha stones on my entire body. I scrape out sore muscles, knots, and places with tension and when I have a cold I scrape my neck, shoulders, and back to help relieve symptoms. Here is a great article on how to use Gua Sha to naturally treat a cold!
WHAT I USE.
STONES.
I use a combo of a few different jade stones. The Jade crystal is known as the stone of eternal youth, which makes it a go-to gemstone for facial treatments and of course, is why I chose it.
The first-ever set of stones I ordered was this set of 5 jade stones. I use each stone in this set! They all offer different benefits from their shape – so play around and see what feels best for you.
Even with these amazing stones, I was on the hunt for another to have as my “travel” stone. I chose this one because it offers the best use for a quick full face and neck Gua Sha session.
But, my new favorite – my baby – is this guy right here. The jagged edges do such a great job at breaking up the tension in my facial muscles – this is a great option if you suffer from TMJ!
OILS.
I have to start by saying you can use ANY oil! The reason we use the oil is to allow for less tugging and pulling of the skin. In a pinch, I have used coconut oil, avocado oil, and even olive oil.
Here are the top oils I use – they are all-natural and organic – with minimal ingredients!
Cocokind:
I love all their products, like – I love them. When it comes to Gua Sha I use their Organic Facial Repair Oil or their Organic Chia Facial Oil.
Drunk Elephant:
I have officially made the switch to all Drunk Elephant skincar products. It was an investment ($$$) worth making and led me to their Luxury Facial Oil. This is def pricier than the other oils so I use it sparingly
Other Oils I Love:
Jojoba oil – regulates sebum production because it is so similar to the sebum that your body produces naturally so when you put jojoba oil on your skin it becomes soothed and moisturized. This sends a signal to your hair and sweat follicles that your skin doesn’t need additional sebum for hydration!!! This keeps skin from looking oily and helps prevent pesky acne caused by clogged pores.
Rosehip Oil – is GREAT for anti-aging. It is rich in Vitamin A which helps to fight against age spots and wrinkles. It’s also packed with molecules that are small enough to penetrate deep layers of your skin, improving moisture and collagen levels all while taking care of those fine lines.
